Our woods ᛟᚢᚱ ᚹᛟᛟᛞ

oak wood

Oak (Eik): The king of Viking woods. Oak was prized for its exceptional    strength, durability, and resistance to decay. It was the primary material for constructing their famous longships, where its large, curved timbers formed the keels and ribs. The Oseberg ship, one of the best-preserved viking ships ever found, is made almost entirely of oak.

birch wood

Birch (Bjørk): A versatile and abundant wood. Birch was used for a wide range of everyday items, including bowls, cups, and utensils. Its most valuable feature, however, was its bark, which is highly waterproof. Vikings peeled thin layers of birch bark to create containers for food and drink, and even used it as a type of parchment for writing runic messages.

Pine and Fir wood

Pine & Fir (Fura): These softwoods were widely available and easy to work with. They were a staple for building houses, creating furniture, and as a primary source of firewood. Pine was also used for the planking of some ships and smaller boats, though it was considered less durable than oak for a long voyage.

Rowan wood

Rowan tree (Reynir): In the world of the Vikings, not all strength was found in brute force. The rowan tree, known as "The Protector," held a sacred place in Norse mythology and was a symbol of magic, safety, and guardianship. Legend tells of how Thor himself clung to a rowan branch to save himself from a raging river, cementing its reputation as a charm against danger and ill-fortune.

While its wood is hard and fine-grained, the true power of the rowan lay in its spiritual significance. It was carved into runic talismans and used for the handles of tools, imbuing them with a protective quality. For us, the rowan tree represents this same spirit of security and inner strength. Choosing this material is a tribute to the deep-rooted belief that true power comes from a place of trust and protection.

Other materials ᛟᚦᛖᚱ ᛗᚨᛏᛖᚱᛟᛚᛊ

Hemp

Hemp (Hampr): This was a critical fiber for the Vikings, relied upon for the ropes that made their longships legendary. Our choice to use hemp rope is a direct tribute to this heritage. It is a material that embodies raw strength and unwavering resilience. Just as the Vikings valued hemp, we choose it for its unmatched durability and unique organic feel, creating products that honor a legacy of craftsmanship and sustainability.

Leather

Leather (Leðr): Vikink is built on conscious craftsmanship. We choose to work with premium vegan leather not as a compromise, but as an integral part of forging a new legacy. This material allows us to create products with the same tactile feel, rugged durability, and lasting quality as traditional leather, while honoring our commitment to the land. Our vegan leather is a deliberate choice, offering resilience that stands up to time and use, proving that a powerful brand can also be a mindful one.

Laser engraving

Engraving (Rista): Your journey is unique, and the tools you choose should be as well. We offer custom laser engravings on select products, allowing you to etch a mark of devotion and make an object a cherished part of your personal saga. With modern technology, we can inscribe your chosen mark.
